Three self-catering homes in El Médano, the beach-and-wind town on Tenerife's south coast: a penthouse for holidays a minute from the sand, and two flats for monthly stays. Book direct with us, with no platform fees.
El Médano is a seaside town in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, in the south of Tenerife. Tenerife South airport is in the same municipality, roughly 8-10 km away by road: 10 to 15 minutes by car or taxi.
There's no direct bus from the airport. Take TITSA line 10 to San Isidro and change there to the 408, which ends in El Médano. Line 470 links the town with Los Cristianos, where the ferries to La Gomera leave from.
This is a real town rather than a resort, lived in all year round: over 9,000 residents, many of them originally from Italy, Germany or the UK. There's a pedestrian centre and a seafront promenade lined with bars, restaurants and surf shops, so day-to-day life happens on foot.
El Médano has a beach right in the centre of town and three more close by, each with its own character: family-friendly, sporty or wild.
On the main beach, according to the Tenerife tourist board, the stretch nearest the town has gentler waves and suits families, while the far end is where the windsurfers and kiters go.
El Médano is Tenerife's windsurfing and kitesurfing capital. The Tenerife tourist board counts around 300 windy days a year, with easterly and north-easterly trade winds blowing side and side-on to the shore.
The trade winds are at their most consistent in summer: roughly 15-30 knots from May to September, and 10-25 knots from October to April. That's why El Cabezo hosts a round of the Windsurfing World Championship every summer (in 2026, from 31 July to 9 August).
If you're new to it, learn with a school: the tourist board rates the El Médano kite spot as not suitable for unsupervised beginners and lists La Tejita as a spot for all levels.
Montaña Roja is the 171-metre volcanic cone at the end of El Médano beach, separating it from La Tejita. It sits at the centre of the 166-hectare Montaña Roja Special Nature Reserve, and it's the mountain you see from the terrace of the Mirador Montaña Roja penthouse.
A waymarked path runs from town to the summit: 1.2 km with 144 metres of ascent, according to Granadilla de Abona town council.
The reserve protects sand habitats, a small wetland and birds such as the Kentish plover, which has its last breeding site in the province here. Please stay on the marked paths.
You can visit all year: southern Tenerife has mild winters and very little rain. At the AEMET weather station at Tenerife South airport, the average high ranges from 21.7°C in January to 28.4°C in August.
For kiting and windsurfing, summer brings the steadiest wind. For quieter beaches and better prices, go in spring or September: our low season is April, May, June and September, and the only surcharge is from 20 December to 6 January.
For holidays we have the Mirador Montaña Roja penthouse, in the pedestrian zone and a minute's walk from the beach: two bedrooms (a double and a smaller room with a trundle bed suitable for children), living room, kitchen, one bathroom and a terrace with views over the bay. Sleeps 4. It's on the fourth floor with no lift. Registration VV-38-4-0102529.
No security deposit and a €50 final clean. You pay 20% once we approve your request and the rest 7 days before arrival. Stays of 15 nights or more get 10% off, and 30 nights or more get 20% off (25% in low season).
El Médano works well for longer stays: beach and shops within walking distance, coworking spaces in town and the airport 10 minutes away.
For remote work, the Canary Islands keep the same time as the UK and Ireland all year round, one hour behind Madrid, Paris or Berlin. And winters are mild: the average January low is around 15°C (AEMET).
Surfing View is right on the seafront beside Playa Chica: two double bedrooms, one bathroom and an open-plan kitchen and living room. La Jaquita is in a residential complex with a pool and has a large terrace. Both sleep 4 and are suitable for remote work.
A written temporary rental agreement is signed before each stay. The price is fixed and quoted on request, based on your dates and length of stay.
Holiday accommodation in the Mirador Montaña Roja penthouse, in the pedestrian centre a minute from the beach. For monthly stays, Surfing View on Playa Chica and La Jaquita, in a complex with a pool.
